Theory and requirement-based potential analyses in organizations: Concept and empirical findings

Based on findings from the psychological theory of complex problem solving and from leadership research we developed the assessment tool ‘Karrierekompass’ (Career Compass) measuring job-relevant individual competencies. It was tested in a technology-oriented organization over the course of six years with a total of 207 employees.
Depending on the fit between individual competencies and organization-specific competency requirements, we derived detailed recommendations for career paths regarding leadership, project-work or specialist-work.
An empirical follow-up study showed high acceptance of the assessment in terms of perceived subjective benefit for the employees, as well as a substantial match between the recommendations and the actual chosen career paths.
